Straight onto the wall with adhesive, the same way brick slips go up. No subframe, no bolts through the tile, no crane.
Concrete cladding tiles look solid enough that people assume they need heavy fixings, like the precast panels craned onto tower blocks. Ours don't. At 12.5mm thick and a fraction of the weight, a ROKA cladding tile fixes more like a large-format tile than a structural panel.
The standard fix: adhesive
For most positions, inside or out, at typical wall height, the tile is bonded straight to a prepared substrate with an exterior-rated, frost-resistant tile adhesive or MS polymer. That's it: no subframe, no embedded fixings. The substrate needs to be sound and properly prepared (low-absorption, primed where needed), the same as any brick slip or large-format tile installed outdoors.
Higher up or more exposed: adhesive plus a mechanical backup
For exterior work or higher wall positions, where wind load or a harder knock is more likely, we add a mechanical backup on top of the adhesive: a screw-fix through the four corner holes already cast into the tile, into a plug or batten behind. Those corner holes look decorative, but they're doing a real job here, closer to how the tie holes on genuine precast GRC panels work.
What we don't use, and why
Heavy structural GRC panels, the kind craned up in tonne-sized sections, use a steel subframe with mechanical anchors, sometimes cast-in plates. That's the right system for a panel that size and weight. It's the wrong system for a 12.5mm decorative tile: needless cost and complexity for something this light.
Does a thicker tile fix any differently?
No. In a fibre-reinforced section this thin, strength comes from the fibre content and how it's oriented, not from extra depth, so going thicker adds weight and cost without a meaningfully stronger fix. The screw-fix option doesn't change with thickness either: the screw passes through the existing corner hole into the plug or batten behind, not into the tile's own section.
